Facebook is a social media and social networking service owned by the American technology conglomerate Meta. Facebook was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with four other Harvard College students.
To see if a group is private or public follow these steps:
- Go to facebook.com/groups and select your group.
- You can find the privacy of the group below the group’s name in the top left.
Public group
Anyone might choose to create a public group for something such as fans of a television show or travel tips for their city. Anyone can see who’s in the group and what they post.
Private group
Anyone might choose to create a private group to discuss something more sensitive, such as a health concern, or for a group of people who know each other, such as a neighbourhood. Only members can see who’s in the group and what they post.
